Public health nuisances and complaints

Mount Alexander Shire Council Environmental Health Unit responds to varied issues from the community relating to nuisances to protect your health and wellbeing.

It is a requirement under nuisance provisions of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, that Council investigates any notice of a nuisance. A nuisance is defined as being dangerous or liable to be dangerous to health or offensive.

It is often the best approach to speak to your neighbour or the person you deem is causing the nuisance. In many instances they may be unaware that an activity is in fact creating a nuisance. Mount Alexander Shire Council suggests that this take place in the first instance.

The Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria can provide information and advice about the best way to approach your neighbour, and can also facilitate a formal mediation process between the relevant parties.
