The Getting Around Transport Connections Project (Phase 3) in the Mount Alexander Shire is a State Government-funded community development program that supports communities to develop innovative responses to the needs of people with limited transport options, and to improve access to services, resources, employment and community participation opportunities.
Key projects include:
• Newstead & District Community Bus Service
The Newstead Rural Transaction Centre runs a community transport service for residents of Newstead, Guildford, Welshman’s Reef, Strangways and Yapeen for transport to Castlemaine and Maryborough. For Bookings and Enquiries phone the Newstead RTC on 5476 2360 or go to http://newstead.vic.au/service/newstead-community-bus. The bus is also available for charter.
• Baringhup & Maldon Community Bus Service
A community transport service in Baringhup and Maldon was established in 2013. The service is similar to the Newstead & District Community Bus model offering transport to Maryborough and for charter. For Bookings and Enquiries phone 0428 329 299 or go to http://baringhupbus.com
• Regional Getting Around Community Transport Web Portal
Council is a partner on the Regional Getting Around Community Transport Web Portal. This portal will provide a comprehensive and interactive resource of community-based transport in the Loddon Mallee region. Regional residents will be able to use the web portal to plan trips using a mixture of community transport and public transport, while service providers will be able to coordinate their resources efficiently. There will also be a range of resources online for starting community-based transport projects within local communities. It is expected that the web portal will be available in 2014.
