Commercial waste disposal

Please note that the Maldon Transfer Station is not equipped to deal with commerical quantities of waste. Commercial waste collectors must dispose of waste at the Castlemaine Landfill.

If you are unsure and require more information, please contact Council on 5471 1700.

Greenwaste

Greenwaste is any organic material that can be converted into mulch and resold to the community. This includes branches, leaves and lawn clippings.

Please note that environmental weeds will not be accepted as green waste. Nor will any organic material that cannot be mulched, such as cactus. To find out which plants are environmental weeds download the 'Weeds of Central Victoria' booklet under the 'Environment' section of this website.

If you are still unsure if your organic waste is greenwaste or not, you can call Council on (03) 5471 1700 or ask the landfill attendant at the transfer station (Maldon) or gatehouse (Castlemaine landfill).

Recyclable materials

Recyclables are taken free or at a nominal charge at the Landfill/Resource Recovery & Waste Transfer Stations.
At the Maldon Resource Recovery & Waste Transfer Station a co-mingled recyclables container is installed for recyclable materials. All materials that can go in the Shire’s kerbside recycle collection are accepted.
At Castlemaine Landfill and Waste Transfer Station recycle materials must be sorted and clean for disposal in the directed places.

2. Double wrap all asbestos in industrial plastic (for example the thick black plastic available by the metre from hardware stores).
