Castlemaine Town Hall

Town Hall setup for a dinner function

The Castlemaine Town Hall is built on the former site of the Castlemaine Municipal Chambers in Lyttleton St. which was destroyed by fire in 1862.

A competition was held to design a new building. The winning design came from Messrs Wilkinson and Permewan. The new structure (the present Town Hall) built by Mr H D McBean was based on the Dutch renaissance style.

The Castlemaine Town Hall was constructed in 1898 with extensions to the west wing in 1984 where a town hall entrance foyer was built and an east wing extension built in 1990 to accommodate Council offices.

The hall itself still maintains its original internal beauty where over the past 100 years, weddings, dances, numerous concerts and hundreds of functions have taken place on its 332 square meter floor space.

Seating Capacity: 300 people
Includes: chairs, tables, fully equipped commercial kitchen.
Other information: In-house public address system, Yamaha Grand Piano; 26 sq metre portable stage..
