The election was conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission as a postal election in October 2012.

Councillor Christine Henderson was elected unopposed by Councillors as Mayor for a one year mayoral term at the Statutory Meeting of Council on 11 November 2014.

The Victorian Electoral Commission declared the result of the Election at the Castlemaine Town Hall at 5.00 pm on Sunday 28 October 2012. The new Councillors took the Oath or Affirmation of Office at the Statutory meeting of the new Council at 7.30 pm on Thursday 1 November 2012 at the Castlemaine Town Hall.
